Brotherhood: The concept of Nation in Islam
Brotherhood: The concept of Nation in Islam
Taran-e-Milli is a poem written by Allamah Muhammad Iqbal(May Allah have mercy on him) in praise of Muslim Ummah. One of the primary message of this poem lies in the fact that around the time Allama Iqbal(May Allah have mercy on him) written this Tarana-e-Milli his worldview had changed dramatically from the previous one when he had written Tarana-e-Hindi praising his homeland Indian subcontinent, now he viewed Muslim Ummah(Global Islamic community) above all and disapproved nationalistic world view, and this message is reflected all over the poem. He reflected that Muslims are members of one nation regardless of there physical location. And this is what should be the attitude of every Muslim, he should regard himself above all a Muslim, regardless of his physical location. No matter which country we live in, first and foremost we are Muslims, and then Pakistani, Afghani, Turkic etc. and whatever. These boundaries should only be taken as administrative division.
But today we see Muslims all over the world are badly entrenched in nationalism(w.r.t countries). The Muslims of each country are just worried about themselves and their country. Pakistanis are worried about themselves and nothing else, so are the Muslims of other countries.
This is very disappointing to me that, today when we see oppressed Muslims somewhere in the world, we argue that we have our own problems we will have to get rid of these(problems) first and only then we can help our oppressed brothers and sisters in Islam.
This is same as if your blood brother calls you for help, “Oh my brother please help me I’m drowning, help I’m dying”, and you solace him thus, “My brother I’ve headache I’ll soon come to your help after relieving my pain”, and in the meantime he is no more. The relations by Islam(i.e. of brotherhood) are of vital importance in our religion. My fellows we have to feel the pain of our oppressed brothers and sisters in Islam, our problems are nothing compared to them. There is a Hadith, “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.” [Muslim]. We have to feel the pain of our fellow Muslims of Palestine, Burma, Kashmir etc.. But, Instead of encouraging our Govt. to help those oppressed Muslims we accompany them in being silent spectators.
May Allah help oppressed Muslims worldwide. May The Most high grant us hidayah, make us feel their pain, and enable us to do something for them.Tarana-e-Milli(Wikipedia)
